The Genki History

1968

The story of Genki Sushi began with the vision of a 24-year-old Japanese sushi chef, Fumio Saito. Saito dreamed of creating a modern sushi restaurant with an unusual feature known as a 'Kaiten' (literally translated as 'revolving'). In December 1968, he created the concept of 'Kaiten Sushi' and pioneered the use of a revolving conveyor belt to serve sushi, combining serving traditional sushi with modern technology.

1990

Not long after, kaiten sushi became a household name in the region of Japan. In 1990, Genki Sushi Co. Ltd was established and in 1991, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. With its dedication to freshness, the company quickly gained public support and successfully expanded further throughout Japan.

Genki Sushi's move into the international arena in 1992 marked a new era for the company with rapid regional expansion worldwide over the years. Today, Genki Sushi has outlets opening in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Philippines, China, Australia, Cambodia, Thailand and Hawaii.

Genki Sushi launched the first “Kousoku Express” store in Japan as a latest innovation to better serve customers their orders the freshest and fastest way.

Today, Genki Sushi Malaysia reopens its first outlet located at Sunway Pyramid.

Shari (Rice)

Shari, the core ingredient in sushi, maki, and gunkan. It comes in a variety of grades and strains which all have different tastes.

Genki Sushi uses 100% premium Japanese type rice, one of the most highly-grown varieties. Our rice is renowned for its exceptional appearance, texture, and fragrance.

Su (Vinegar)

An important ingredient in making sushi rice, or Shari, the Su used by Genki Sushi is especially formulated for Malaysia.

Shoyu (Soy Sauce)

Genki Sushi uses a special soy sauce known as Sushi No Tare, which is a unique blend ideal for sushi and sashimi that does not overwhelm the fresh taste of the fish.

Made from soy bean or fat-free soy bean, salt wheat, and water, this premium soy sauce is made by a producer with a 200-year-old history. Unlike its Chinese counterpart, it has a slightly sweeter taste and delicate sherry-like notes.

Nori (Dried Seaweed)

Specially made and packed for Genki Sushi Malaysia.

The selected seaweed is in medium thickness with a naturally glossy surface that is crunchy with hints of a mild oceanic taste, which is one of the foundation of sushi.
